B.C. raises minimum wage
It is now one of the highest in Canada.
On June 1, B.C. saw a scheduled increase in its minimum hourly rate. It is now $15.20 CAD instead of $14.60. The highest wage remains in Nunavut at $16 CAD per hour. British Columbia became Canada's second highest minimum wage region.
Over the past few years, B.C.'s minimum hourly wage has risen from $11.35 CAD to $15.20. Still, the province is one of the most expensive places to live in the country.
Several Canadian provinces have already raised minimum wages on April 1. The province of Quebec did so later, on May 1. A number of regions are expecting rate increases on September 1 and October 1.
