Alberta introduces rental assistance program

Residents of certain cities will be able to receive housing allowances.

The province of Alberta has updated its temporary Rent Supplement Program. Now, low-income families and people who are looking for work can get help from the government to pay their rent. Support is available for up to two years. During this time, people will be able to improve their financial situation.

The allowance will be paid directly to tenants and will be available in the 7 communities in the province where rents are highest:

  • Edmonton;
  • Calgary;
  • Fort McMurray;
  • Grand Prairie;
  • Lethbridge;
  • Medicine-Hut;
  • Red Deer.

The amount of support will be based on the size and location of the family. Tenants must contact their housing provider, which can be found on Alberta's official website at link to receive the benefit.
