Rural areas of Ontario will get high-speed internet
There are more than a hundred households in line for connection.
The COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted how important people-to-people connections are, and a quality Internet connection is very helpful in keeping in touch while staying at home. However, many rural and remote areas still do not have access to high-speed Internet.
Helena Jaczek, MPP for Markham-Stouffville County, announced that $125,000 CAD was recently allocated to bring high-speed line to residents in the Lemonville and Locust Hill communities of Ontario. Once completed, 144 households will have reliable Internet access.
Connecting homes in Ontario is just part of a national project to provide broadband Internet connectivity. The government has previously stated that the plan is to provide high-speed Internet to 98% of Canada's population by 2026, and by 2030 it expects to provide quality Internet connectivity to the entire population.
