Google has allowed Canadians to work from home for another year
For another year, employees in Google's Canadian office can stay home.
Google said it is extending the ability for most of its 1,500 Canadian employees to work from home until at least July 2021.
A company spokesperson says the option to work from home has been extended to allow employees to plan for the future.
This work option is available to employees whose presence in the office is not required.
Google Canada employs about 1,500 people, including engineers, sales leaders and artificial intelligence researchers in offices in Waterloo, Toronto and Montreal. Google is also building new offices in these cities to accommodate up to 5,000 employees by 2022.
A study by the Angus Reid Institute found that about a third of Canadians who work from home expect to resume work from the office, while about 20 per cent say they will mostly stay home.
Facebook, Shopify Inc. and Open Text Corp. also said their employees will soon have the ability to work remotely all the time.
