Abandoned house bought in Vancouver for a cosmic sum
Not every cottage can be sold for that kind of money!
In Vancouver, an abandoned house with an interesting history recently found a new owner.
The property was put up for auction by City Hall back in 2019. At the time, it was valued at $2,154,700 CAD. According to Marina Marzin, tax assessor, the owner of the home inherited it in 1985, but has not paid property taxes since 2016. Numerous attempts by City Hall to contact the owner have been unsuccessful, so the house is apparently abandoned.
The house was built in 1928. Area just over 220 square meters, two floors and a plot of 580 square meters. The condition is dilapidated.
The price of the uninhabitable residence as of July 1, 2020 was $2,013,700 CAD. On January 30, 2021, the lot was re-listed by Sutton Group-West Coast Realty — already with a price of $2,395,000 CAD. And less than two weeks later, there was a buyer who was even more generous than expected and bought the house for $2,500,000 CAD.
No information about the new owner has been disclosed by the agency or the mayor's office.
