Ontario resident fined a large sum for improper fishing

The Ontario government is reminding anglers that leaving fish on shore is illegal.

Stanley Hazlewood of Dryden was fined $1,400 CAD for leaving four northern pike while ice fishing. Hazlewood also received a two-year probation whereby he is not allowed to fish in Ontario or own fishing equipment.

The incident occurred in February 2020, when Environmental Health Officers noticed a fisherman's misconduct. Hazlewood was contacted shortly thereafter and was charged in May of this year.

Conservation officers continue to patrol and protect natural resources even during the current COVID-19 pandemic, and are reminded that protecting natural resources is directly related to our well-being.
