Canada continues to attract skilled professionals who speak French
The immigration ministry's new initiative aims to attract French speakers to the country.
Canada values French-speaking immigrants as they help preserve the country's culture, boost the economy, and address labor shortages. To ensure the sustainability and economic growth of Francophone minority communities, Canada is working to attract more such immigrants not only to Quebec but also to other parts of the country.
Immigration Minister Marc Miller announced this week that a special monthly selection process will now be held for candidates with high French language proficiency who wish to immigrate to Canada permanently.
The category-based selection initiative allows Canada to welcome more in-demand professionals to communities across the country. The immigration ministry's ongoing efforts to streamline the selection of economic immigrants will help build Canada's economic and social prosperity for years to come.
Last November, goals for French-speaking immigrants were announced: 6% of all immigrants in 2024, 7% in 2025, and 8% in 2026 should be Francophones settling outside Quebec. In January, Miller outlined new plans to support French-speaking immigrants.
A key component of the Francophone Immigration Policy Implementation Plan involves giving special consideration to candidates with high French language proficiency in the Express Entry program. This confirms the Canadian government's commitment to supporting and stimulating the economic viability of Francophone communities outside Quebec.
