Study in Toronto: language school, colleges, discounts

I went to Toronto to learn all about ILAC Language School, their partner colleges, and to see where and how students study live.

Admission to a Canadian university with the aim of further immigration is one of the most reliable ways to obtain the coveted status of a permanent resident of Canada. After studying at a public college or university, a graduate receives a work permit for a duration of one to three years (depending on the length of the study program), and a large number of immigration programs are opened for him that are not available to candidates without a Canadian education.

Campus tour

ILAC is considered the best school in Canada. It has three campuses in the heart of Toronto. I was able to visit one of them, which houses three schools simultaneously: the ILAC language school, the ILAC private college, and Georgian State College. To be honest, I didn't feel like I was in a school at all, because the campus looks more like a high-level business centre or an expensive hotel. This is said to be done to make international students feel as comfortable as possible. On campus, you can find unusual works of art, such as paintings made from thread and needles, Rubik's cubes, or small pencils.

By the way, many people think of Toronto as a "concrete" city, but in fact there is a lot of greenery and parks. The view from the ILAC school windows is gorgeous!

Learning during a pandemic

At this time, international students can come to Canada without being vaccinated. ILAC has nurses who provide students with all the information about COVID-19 and vaccinations. Students can get vaccinated for free if they wish. If a student is not vaccinated, they will need to take a COVID-19 rapid test once a week. This is also free and takes place right on campus.

Studying English at ILAC

The language school offers both on-campus and online instruction. Students who come to Canada study from morning to afternoon. Groups average 15-16, but due to the pandemic, there are fewer now. An interesting feature is that the students in the classes sit across from each other. This helps remove the language barrier, because people from over 100 countries come to the school.

ILAC divides students into 17 levels of English proficiency, with students of the same level in one group. In addition, groups are formed so that students are about the same age but of different nationalities.

Many people are interested in age restrictions. ILAC has two large groups of students: teens (ages 16 to 19) and adults (ages 19 and older). There is no other limit! Even retired people come to study English.

ILAC offers several English language programs:

  • general English;
  • IELTS exam preparation;
  • preparation for admission to Canadian universities.

All programs can be completed in person or online.

Getting into a Canadian university without taking a language test

A sufficient level of English is a requirement for admission. The special feature of the ILAC Preparatory Program is that after it you can enter more than 85 colleges and universities in Canada without IELTS! To do this, you need to study in the program and pass internal tests.

Once you have begun your studies at ILAC, you can immediately apply for conditional admission to university. In this case, a place is assigned to the student and all that remains is to complete the language program for full admission. Once you have received your conditional admission letter, you can apply for your student visa immediately.

ILAC also prepares students for success in higher education, which is very important because educational standards differ from country to country.

Discounts

ILAC has special offers on English language tuition until December 31:

  • when booking 8 weeks or more of online tuition, one week will cost $100 CAD (classes are held 5 days a week for 3 hours);
  • when booking on campus — 30% discount.

Promotions are only valid when you book your studies through ILAC's partners, such as us. We are also giving away one of our books on immigration to Canada as a gift.

ILAC partner colleges

ILAC campuses are home to two public colleges: Georgian@ILAC in Toronto and Red Deer in conjunction with Sterling College in Vancouver.

The following programs with different durations are available at Georgian College:

  • business — 2 years;
  • global business management — 2 years;
  • human resource management — 1 year;
  • project management — 1 year.

And Red Deer College offers 2-year academic programs to incoming students:

  • software development;
  • network administration;
  • medical practice (bachelor's degree and nursing experience required).

Scholarships on admission

A very generous offer from colleges is a $2500 CAD scholarship per semester. That is, you can save $5000 CAD for one year of study, and $10,000 CAD for two years. The scholarship is available only to CIS nationals who enroll at Georgian College in January or May or at Red Deer College in January. In addition, students receive 12 free weeks of English language instruction through the college preparatory program when they enroll.
