Toronto's summer festivals have been cancelled again
For the second summer in a row, there will be no events.
The Toronto government said it is cancelling all major outdoor events until Sept. 6 to avoid the spread of COVID-19. This is the second year in a row that this has happened.
"City officials understand the importance of these events to Toronto's prosperity. The city intends to work closely with event organizers to help them make it through 2021 and back in 2022," the government said.
According to officials, all organizers were warned in advance. The decision was made after consultation with Toronto's chief medical officer, the city's emergency operations centre, city police and festival organizers.
The list of dozens of cancelled celebrations includes the Canadian National Expo, Caribbean Carnival, Jazz Festival, Labor Day Parade and others.
Earlier, Ontario Premier Doug Ford extended the province's lockdown until June 2.
