7 people injured in a brutal knife attack by a killer

Unfortunately, it was not without a fatal outcome.

A quiet North Shore suburb of Vancouver has been rocked by news of the death of a woman and the wounding of six others after a gunman attacked them at a public library. Police say there is no ongoing threat to the public, the killer is already in police custody.

Amy Robertson of Emergency Medical Services said all six patients were hospitalized. She said 11 ambulances arrived at the scene and two other vehicles for observation. However, she did not give details on the condition of the patients.

Police said on Twitter that the suspect acted alone and that there was no danger to the local community. The case is now being handled by the homicide unit and investigators have yet to identify all of the victims.

Sgt. Frank Jung of the Integrated Homicide Unit said the suspect — a man in his 20s who was arrested and is now in custody — has had dealings with police in the past.

So far, the motive for the attack is unknown — whether there was a specific intent or perhaps the young man was not himself under the influence of drugs, alcohol or other substances. The police are now interviewing all witnesses and compiling a full picture of the crime.
