How much you need to earn to live in the most expensive and least expensive areas of Ontario
Not everywhere will the minimum wage be enough to live comfortably.
If you're earning minimum wage, it looks like it won't be enough to afford to live in Ontario's most expensive regions. According to the Ontario Living Wage Network, the least affordable regions of the province currently require a wage well above $14.25 CAD per hour to live comfortably.
The most expensive place in the province is the city of Toronto, where residents must earn a whopping $22.08 CAD per hour to live comfortably — almost twice the minimum wage.
In second place is the Halton region ($20.38 CAD per hour), followed by Haliburton ($19.42 CAD per hour).
The wage data were based on the needs of a family of four with two parents working full time throughout the year.
As for living in Ontario's cheapest and most affordable cities, in fact, the cost of living there still exceeds the current minimum wage.
While Ontario's minimum wage is currently $14.25 an hour, OLWN says that even places with lean budgets, such as Muskoka, still need residents earning more.
According to the Ontario Living Wage Network website, those living in South St. Mary need to earn about $16.16 CAD per hour, and anyone living in London needs to earn $16.20 CAD per hour.
Meanwhile, those who live in Tander Bay need about $16.21 CAD an hour.
