Thousands of people demonstrated in Quebec City
A large-scale action against quarantine measures was held in the city.
On Sunday, March 7, Quebecers who disagreed with the current restrictions in the province marched to the Parliament building for a demonstration. The action was organized by young athlete Isaac Pépin together with his father Stephane Pépin. They estimated that around 20,000 people gathered in total.
"I am proud that my 16-year-old son was able to organize such a march," Stefan shared with reporters.
One of the reasons for the action was that the provincial authorities had previously promised to allow the reopening of sports centres, but this did not happen. Although it is likely that the protesters were not happy with the other restrictions in force in Quebec.
The protest was monitored by the police. As a result 13 fines were issued for violation of distance and absence of masks, 5 people were arrested. Among those fined was an elderly woman who cannot wear a mask for medical reasons — her fine was $1,550 CAD.
And it seems the protests will not end there. A demonstration in Montreal against the quarantine restrictions is planned for 13 March. Representatives of the Russian diaspora are going to take part in it.
