Canada expects an influx of Ukrainian immigrants

Specialists remind of the imminent expiration of emergency visas.

Canada is expecting a surge in the number of Ukrainians seeking to enter the country on emergency CUAET visas as their expiration date rapidly approaches. Since the war in Ukraine began, the federal government of Canada has issued more than 930,000 temporary visas for those seeking asylum, providing the opportunity to work and study in the country. As a result, approximately 210,000 participants in the program have already arrived in Canada.

Operation Ukraine Safe Haven is tracking these migration flows and, according to surveys, expects about 90,000 more Ukrainians to arrive by the end of March. Sarosh Rizvi, the group's executive director, emphasizes that the main difficulty is finding housing for the new arrivals. The situation is exacerbated by a decrease in public attention to the problem and a decrease in the number of offers from families willing to open their homes to Ukrainians.

To help ease the situation, the organization recommends that Ukrainians planning to arrive before their visas expire consider housing options in smaller communities. Housing is easier to find and more affordable, which can help ease their adjustment and integration into Canadian society.
