Saskatchewan businesses have saved more than CA$ 600 million

What is the secret of the province?

The Government of Saskatchewan's Red Tape Reduction Committee has released its official financial results for the year. It turned out that simplified procedures have already saved businesses in the province about CA$ 688 million.

For 2022-23, the Committee reviewed 208 business-related regulations and reduced the number of regulations from 260 to 254 at the end of the year. Reducing red tape saves businesses CA$ 10-20 million per year. Since its inception in 2014, the Committee has met or exceeded this target every year.

Saskatchewan Minister of Parks, Culture and Sport Laura Ross said 2023 was a very successful year in that regard:

"This last year was another chapter of modernizing our business regulations so that our local economy continues to thrive. Red tape reduction leads to further investment in our economy and creates jobs and opportunities for residents of the province."

The Committee's purpose is to identify bureaucratic problems in government, evaluate and track the costs and savings of regulatory changes, and seek solutions to such problems. Staff monitors the revision of business rules at least every 10 years, minimizing any regulatory burden, and increasing opportunities for innovation and economic competitiveness.
