Applications for the Youth Exchange Program are now open
International Experience Canada's new season is now open!
Immigration Minister Marc Miller announced that the 2024 season of the International Experience Canada (IEC) program is now open. This time, Canada is going to receive about 90,000 young people from partner countries. Applications will be accepted starting December 11, 2023.
"This program will help Canadian employers in their search for talented employees, but will also serve to stimulate the tourism sector across the country," said Miller.
International Experience Canada (IEC) is a reciprocal program that allows Canadian and international youth between the ages of 18 and 35 to work and travel in each other's countries.
Candidates are selected in three categories:
- Working Holiday participants receive an open work permit that allows them to travel and work anywhere in the host country.
- Participants in the International Co-op Internship program receive work authorization for a specific employer, which allows students to gain targeted experience in their field of study.
- Young Professionals participants receive work authorization for a specific employer to gain targeted professional work experience in their field.
Canada has cooperative agreements with more than 35 countries under this program. In 2023, new agreements were reached with Finland, Iceland and Ukraine, while existing agreements with South Korea and the United Kingdom were improved.
Miller also reminded that already this season, new automatic sorting will be used to speed up processing of applications. It will make it possible to coordinate routine applications faster.
