A petition for Trudeau's resignation has been signed by a member of parliament

A petition for Trudeau

Cross-party political games are being taken to a new level.

A petition numbered e-4701 is gradually gathering votes on the House of Commons website. It calls on Parliament to pass a vote of no confidence in Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and to hold an early election in 45 days if successful.

The petition also forms reasons: on behalf of the "citizens of Canada" it speaks about the loss of trust and that "the current government elected is not acting in the best interest of all citizens". According to the creators and signatories, the policy of the Prime Minister, who has been in office for 8 years, has logically led to the crisis that Canada is now facing. Trudeau is reminded of the pressing problems such as the housing crisis and the highest post-covid inflation, and less obvious: "infringement of civil liberties" and imports of natural resources. Tax and migration policies are also frowned upon.

As of Dec. 10, the petition had 237,564 signatories, the vast majority of whom live in Ontario — 91,138 signatories. Alberta is second with 58,541, followed by British Columbia with 39,367.

Among the signatories is the Conservative Party MP Michelle Ferreri. She wrote about it on Facebook:

"Misery is a powerful motivator and clearly this petition is elevating the voices of Canadians who are sick of the Trudeau-mposed misery and want a leader and a government they can trust."

This petition for the Conservatives is a way of demonstratively putting the ruling party and the prime minister personally in their place. Political analysts agree that as long as the Liberals are in coalition with the Democrats, they are not afraid of any vote — regardless of how many people sign the petition. However, they will most likely achieve their goal of embarrassing their political opponents.

According to the Angus Reid Institute, Trudeau's approval rating in October 2023 of this year was 33%.

The petition was authored by Canadian Melissa Outwater of Peterborough, the same district Ferreri represents in Parliament. Outwater has long maintained a Facebook page sharply critical of Trudeau.

The petition was published on November 24 and will close exactly one month later, on December 24, just in time for Christmas. The Government responds to all petitions presented to the House of Commons within 45 days.
