Canada has seen a dramatic increase in the number of employers hiring foreigners

This was reported by the Ministry of Employment and Social Development.

According to statistics provided by Employment and Social Development Canada, the number of applications created for Labor Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) in 2023 has increased by 39% across the country compared to the same period in 2022. Due to the sheer volume of applications, delays in processing occur.

Growth by province

In Canada's western provinces, the increase is even more staggering: it amounted to 83%. The only region of the country where the number of applications decreased was Yukon, but not significantly — by 0.9%.

The champion in terms of applications is Nunavut, with employers in this territory submitting 535.7% more applications than a year ago. It is followed by Northwest Territories with 115.6%, Manitoba (103.3%) and Saskatchewan (103.2%).

Slightly behind but still growing steadily is Alberta (80.4%), followed by immigrant mecca British Columbia (46%) and Nova Scotia (36.3%).

Ontario and Quebec go hand-in-hand as always, up 25.4% and 23.5%. They are joined by New Brunswick, which also filed nearly a quarter more applications than it did in 2022 (23.3%). Rounding out the list are the slowly but steadily growing Newfoundland and Labrador (17.7%) and Prince Edward Island (6.5%).
