The government is on the lookout for the beauty of Atlantic Canada.

The governments of Canada and Newfoundland and Labrador, along with the Codroy Valley Area Development Association (CVADA), are investing in the tourism potential of the province's southwest coast. Rural Economic Development Minister Goody Hutchings announced more than CA$ 644,000 to expand the Starlite Trail:

"Western Newfoundland’s rugged beauty, pristine coastline and people draw visitors from around the world every year. This investment will give more people, more reasons to visit and stay longer, which means more opportunities for our local economy," he commented.

Andrew Parsons, Minister of Industry, Energy and Technology, also added CA$ 245,000 from his department. The official said that he himself has traveled this hiking trail many times, and therefore it is a pleasure for him personally to invest in its financing and economic development of the region.

The investment will help improve and reorganize the existing Starlite Trail, complete new sections and extend the route to eventually cover approximately 17 km of scenic highlands surrounding Campbell's Lake. Visitors here will be able to enjoy multi-day hikes and short walks, as well as new viewing platforms showcasing the province's natural beauty.

The Starlite Trail is a scenic trail with views of the Longrange Mountains, Little Codroy River and Campbells Lake. It is great for birdwatching, hiking and snowshoeing. The trail is open year round and is great to visit at any time. Traveling with dogs is allowed, but pets must be on a leash.
