Explosion in west Ottawa: three people injured

Operational measures are being carried out at the scene of the incident.

In one of the suburbs of Ottawa on Wednesday morning there was an explosion. The incident occurred at a construction site where a new fire station is being built. Due to the presence of the construction site, where blasting operations are sometimes carried out, the loud sound did not immediately arouse suspicion among nearby witnesses.

The fire department promptly arrived on the scene and recorded the localization of the damage. Three people were injured: two men suffered minor injuries and another more serious, but not life-threatening injuries. Medical assistance was provided to all of the injured.

The site is about 400 meters from St. Isidore Catholic School and near several stores. A school spokesman said that the school and students were not affected by the explosion — they remained in their classrooms.

The causes of the explosion have not yet been named.
