Justin Trudeau reacted to Matthew Perry's death
The Prime Minister honored the actor's memory on his social media accounts.
On October 28, Canadian-American actor Matthew Perry died in his home in Los Angeles. He was widely known for his role as Chandler Bing in the comedy series "Friends", and in total in his filmography more than 50 projects.
The news of Perry's death was commented on by Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau:
"Matthew Perry’s passing is shocking and saddening. I’ll never forget the schoolyard games we used to play, and I know people around the world are never going to forget the joy he brought them. Thanks for all the laughs, Matthew. You were loved – and you will be missed."
Trudeau and Perry were personally acquainted. The actor's mother Suzanne Perry worked as press secretary to Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau, Justin's father. And Trudeau and Perry spent a lot of time together as children.
In a 2017 on “Jimmy Kimmel Live,” Perry recounted how he once punched young Prime Minister Justin Trudeau in the schoolyard — he was in 5th grade at the time. Trudeau responded with a joking social media post offering Perry a rematch. And the post ended with the question, "who hasn’t wanted to punch Chandler?"
The 54-year-old actor's body was found in a hot tub and the cause of death was ruled drowning. No signs of drugs or violent death were found by the police.
