What does Canada think about aid to Ukraine?
Leger Sociological Services found out what Canadians think.
Leger polled Canadians about what they think of their country's actions on the world stage. Most of the questions focused on Canada's assistance to Ukraine since the start of the Russian military invasion in February 2022.
45% of respondents said that the Canadian government should maintain the current level of financial assistance to Ukraine. Another 12 percent are in favor of increasing the amount of aid, while 30 percent of those who took part in the survey believe that it is worth allocating less money than it is now. 12% of citizens found it difficult to answer.
What can I do to help?
Several questions asked about specific areas of assistance. For example, the vast majority of Canadians support spending on humanitarian aid: 46% of Canadians believe that it should continue at the same level, and another 30% believe that even more humanitarian aid should be allocated. And only 14% of Canadians said that spending on humanitarian aid is unjustifiably high.
Canadian residents were a little less confident in their government's support for spending on training Ukrainian military and diplomatic support for Ukraine. In favor of maintaining the current course, 46% and 40% respectively, 23% and 30% voted for more intensive support in these areas, while 18% each voted for slowing down.
The greatest number of supporters of reducing costs was in the issue of military financing: the purchase of ammunition and other supplies. Here every fourth person — 25% — was in favor of moderating the fervor. Slightly less (20%) believe that military support should be increased, and 40% are in favor of maintaining the current course.
