Canada supports Israel

Officials have strongly criticized the Hamas terror attack.

On the morning of October 7, Israel was subjected to a massive rocket attack from the Gaza Strip. At the same time, armed Hamas units infiltrated the territory, and as a result, various sources say about 250 dead and about 1,500 wounded on the Israeli side. It is also reported that at least 35 people have been taken hostage by the militants — videos of torture and murder are being circulated by the attacking party.

At the same time, the Palestinian side claims that 198 people have been killed and 1,610 injured by Israeli airstrikes as a result of the counter-terrorist operation "Iron Swords" declared in response. Both Israel and Palestine call it a war.

The world community condemns the attack on Israel: the UN website published a statement on behalf of the organization's Secretary General António Guterres. And the UN Security Council announced an emergency meeting.

In Canada, officials expressed support for Israel despite Saturday afternoon. Justin Trudeau wrote on social media:

"Canada strongly condemns the current terrorist attacks against Israel. These acts of violence are completely unacceptable. We stand with Israel and fully support its right to defend itself. Our thoughts are with everyone affected by this. Civilian life must be protected."

The Prime Minister was echoed by Foreign Minister Melanie Joly:
