Nova Scotia will review police work

The province decided to make the agency more efficient.

Nova Scotia has announced an extensive police audit. Based on its findings, recommendations for improvement for the department are expected. The province may review the very format in which police services are delivered.

Attorney General and Justice Minister Brad Johns said a special committee is being set up to look into the matter, with representation from different constituencies:

"We are committed to making our communities safer, and a big part of that work is ensuring our policing services are effective, efficient and structured in a way that best serves Nova Scotians."

The committee will work closely with an outside consultant who is still being sought by the province. Letters have been sent to police agencies and community organizations asking for nominations for the committee.

The province currently has 11 police agencies with a total of 2,000 officers. A full review will take a long time and is expected to be completed in 2025, according to the authorities.
