UN acknowledged achievements of Quebec

The provincial head was invited as an expert to the summit.

Premier of Quebec François Legault, who has been in office since 2018, will attend a United Nations summit on climate change. The meeting will take place next Wednesday in New York. In his social networks, the politician did not fail to emphasize that he was the only one invited Canadian local prime minister. Legault's press office attributes this fact to the global acknowledge of the Quebec government's efforts to combat climate change.

The environmental agenda has remained one of the pillars of the political platform of the current Quebec government over the past few years. Back in the fall of 2020, Legault officially announced a systematic response to climate change. Under his leadership, the province committed to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 37.5 percent below 1990 levels by 2030 and to become carbon neutral by 2050.

There are already recognized results of this policy: Quebec emits the least amount of greenhouse gases per capita in all of North America, and 99% of its electricity comes from renewable sources.

This spring, the municipality of Mont Tremblant (a popular ski resort in Quebec) announced its intention to ban fireworks — also for environmental reasons. And right now, the province's Ministry of Environment, Climate Change, Fauna and Parks is concerned about stopping the spread of a degenerative central nervous system disease among wild deer in Canada.

Not surprisingly, Quebec's commitment to protect the planet and its natural resources has not gone unnoticed by the United Nations. The environment is recognized as an important issue across Canada, but it's Quebec that's getting the most attention. If you care about the environment, this province may be an excellent option for immigration. Contact our consultants to develop a customized strategy for moving to Canada.
