Canada extends cancellation of tariffs on goods from Ukraine

Canada continues economic aid to Ukraine.

Canada's Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Chrystia Freeland announced the extension of the Ukraine Goods Remission Order until June 9, 2024. Thanks to this, Ukranian goods, including steel and in-quota supply-managed goods, are imported to Canada tariff-free.

The Ukraine Goods Remission Order has been in effect since June 9, 2022. It is intended to support the Ukrainian economy by increasing exports to Canada. Imports to Canada of goods produced in Ukraine are exempt from customs and trade remedy duties.

The basis for the extension of the above mentioned Order is the Canada-Ukraine Free Trade Agreement (CUFTA), which entered into force on August 1, 2017. This was announced by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau in April of this year. Thanks to this, tariffs were waived on 99.9% of imports from Ukraine, including fish and seafood, oil, minerals, manufactured and agricultural products.

Ukraine and Ukrainians are helped not only by the Canadian government but also by ordinary Canadians. For example, a woman who emigrated to Paradise from Odessa is being helped by locals to learn English, and a refugee from Ukraine was helped to find a dream job in Kelowna.
