Canadians help a Ukrainian woman learn English

When Larissa asked her new neighbors to help, she never dreamed so many people would respond.

Larissa Dubova recently emigrated from Odessa to Paradise, a seaside town in Newfoundland. The woman already knew English, but she had trouble understanding the rapid speech of her new neighbors. So she decided to improve her language skills in an original way and asked Canadians to help. She wrote in a Facebook group that she wanted to go for a walk around the local lake and talk in English. This way she wanted to both raise her language and make friends.

Dubova could not have imagined that so many people would volunteer to help her. The post received thousands of likes and hundreds of responses. It took Larisa a week to respond to everyone. Now she regularly communicates with 40 Paradise residents and has 15 companions. She has to take 2-3 walks every day to talk to everyone. The woman is happy and touched. She says she has heard how compassionate Canadians were, but she didn't expect them to be so kind.

Larissa is not just studying the language for fun. She wants to find a job as soon as possible and join her husband, who is already earning money. She also dreams of starting a travel blog and visiting different parts of Canada.

A resident of her own neighborhood, Melissa, especially helps her a lot. The women have become friends and often walk their dogs together. They talk about the mentality of Canadians, traditions of Newfoundland, local holidays, and also discuss how to successfully pass a job interview and what Canadian employers are interested in. Larissa and Melissa hope to remain friends in the future.

Larissa's interlocutors say that she has found an ingenious way to get used to society. She now gets all the important information firsthand and can already consider herself a Canadian.
