Canada and the U.S. are building a joint sustainable future

The country leaders' meeting did not go in vain.

During a March 24 meeting in Ottawa, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and U.S. President John Biden declared several important statements. One of them was a commitment to creating the joint Canada-U.S. Energy Transformation Task Force that would be responsible for energy transformation and strengthening bilateral ties in the field of clean energy.

The goal of this project is to stimulate clean energy and create jobs on both sides of the border. The Task Force will focus on renewable energy and electric vehicles, as well as on critical minerals and metals.

The first meeting of the group is taking place these days at the White House, and Canada is represented by Deputy Prime Minister Chrystia Freeland. Amos J. Hochstein, the U.S. Special Presidential Coordinator for Global Infrastructure and Energy Security co-chairs the meeting.

Environmental challenges are nothing new to the United States and Canada, and in recent years both countries have pushed forward efforts to succeed in this area: governmental projects are announced, international agreements are made, and citizen initiatives are emerging.

In addition to the importance of environmental progress, both sides noted the significance of creating new workplaces. According to recent statistics, nearly 18% of young people in Canada are unemployed or not in university or college and the Environmental Innovation Projects could be a great start for them after high school.
