How Justin Trudeau supports young Canadians
The Prime Minister's team issued a huge statement.
Justin Trudeau's team has released an ambitious plan to support young Canadians on Twitter and on the Liberal Party's website, An extensive document of goals and measures to support the youth is declared as "building a future for all".
In our article, we give an overview of the prime minister's program. The plan is divided into several parts each of which them discuss below.
"Canada’s future depends on our young people – and they deserve the same chance of owning a home, starting a family, and thriving in their careers as past generations. Justin Trudeau and our Liberal team are taking real action to help build a better future for young Canadians," opens the action plan to support Canada's today and future.
Supporting students and new alumni
As the statement says, students and graduates "Students and new graduates shouldn’t need to make payments on student loans that they cannot afford." This is followed by a sweeping response: "That’s why our Liberal government is permanently eliminating interest on federal student and apprenticeship loans to help recent graduates get the best start in their careers. We’re also enhancing repayment assistance to ensure that no person making less than $40,000 will need to make payments on their federal student loans."
Support young families
"Young parents deserve to know that they can afford to raise a family.
That’s why we’re cutting child care costs by 50% this year, creating more quality spaces, and moving forward with $10-a-day child care, to help young families save for their future, grow in their careers, and give their kids the best possible start to life."
"Climate action cannot wait."
Trudeau's team says it has "put a price on pollution" and is now "giving more money back to Canadians." "We’ve protected more of our oceans and coastlines – 14% today from just 1% in 2015 – and made historic new investments in public transit across the country." Still, they "still have more work to do."
Helping young Canadians buy their own home
Trudeau could not avoid the housing problem. The Liberal and Conservative parties have long been opposing each other for a long time in the Canadian parliament over rent affordability and house buying. Pierre Poilievre, an opponent of Trudeau and leader of the Conservatives, blames Trudeau for the fact that the price of rent has risen tremendously during his years in power.
"Our Liberal team introduced the Tax-Free First Home Savings Account that will help you to save up to $40,000 towards a home, and when you’re ready to buy, you can withdraw it, tax-free."
Public health care system
The main goal among Trudeau's stated goals is to help young Canadians and young families. The budget for fiscal year 2023 includes money for dental care for low-income families: "Our Liberal team is moving forward to provide dental care to Canadian families with incomes of less than $90,000 annually, starting with under 12 years-olds this year and those under 18 by 2023."
Growing a Strong Economy
The government recognizes that to be successful Canada can only stand on a strong successful foundation – on its young, productive and ambitious workforce, so it declares: " We’re raising the federal minimum wage to $15.55 an hour, creating 300,000 new work opportunities and experiences, and helping young Canadians find apprenticeships in the skilled trades."
Justin Trudeau has been Prime Minister of Canada since 2015. The next election is scheduled for 2025.
