Liberal government fails plan implementation

The idea of planting 2 billion trees is far from reality.

For a long time now, attempts to improve the environmental condition of the planet have been a huge part of public and political life in many countries around the world. Canada is no exception in this matter. The Liberal Party promised its citizens in the 2019 election to plant 2 billion new trees by 2030.

According to a recent audit, the government is disastrously far from environmental goals. Jerry DeMarco, the federal environment commissioner, said a couple of days ago.

"Climate change and biodiversity are intrinsically linked and ... these two crises need to be addressed through decisive and concerted actions. But now the government is not on track. It's clear that we have been repeatedly ringing the alarm bells. Now, these bells are almost deafening," the environmental spokesman said to reporters.

The last audit shows that with the current state of affairs in the country, the government will not be able to plant even a tenth part of these trees in time. Still, even after such a slow start, there is an opportunity to catch up.

The audit was one of five recent reports, so DeMarco emphasized how important it is for the government to meet its climate commitments. Forests are one of the key factors in helping to slow or even prevent climate challenges.
