How are Ukrainian refugees helped to learn English in Canada?

When you come to another country, it is very important to know a foreign language. Without it, of course, you can live, but it will be very difficult. You will constantly feel like a stranger and helpless.

In 2022, many Ukrainians arrived in Canada on permission of CUAET, who did not plan their move and did not learn a foreign language in advance. Almost all of them want to find a good job and feel at home in the country, which is impossible without the language.

Local Canadian companies have organized courses for Ukrainian refugees. For example, the Ukrainian cultural and educational centre in Winnipeg, Oseredok, helps those who wish to take a language course.

What the training at the centre offers:

  • 10 weeks of free language learning;
  • emphasis on spoken language to overcome the language barrier;
  • classes for 3 hours 5 days a week;
  • a certificate after successful completion of the program.

The certificate does not replace a state diploma, but it gives you a chance to find a job in Canada. The document proves that the potential employee can read, write and speak English.

This is the third time the Center "Oseredok" has held courses for Ukrainian refugees. And there are more and more applicants each time. There are 36 places in the class, and they are all taken.
