The province of Canada will support the population with payments
The authorities shared their plans to help in times of inflation.
The authorities of the province of Alberta decided to support the population in a difficult period when many faced difficulties due to inflation.
Starting in January 2023 and for the next 6 months, families will receive a tax-free payment of $600 CAD for each elderly person, each child under 18, and each adult who qualifies for a disability pension or low-income financial assistance. Families with total incomes below $180,000 CAD per year are eligible. Alberta will also index disability benefits, low-income support, retiree benefits, and child benefits in line with inflation.
Some support measures apply not only to the needy but to the entire population of the province. For example, Alberta will stop charging fuel tax at gas stations for at least 6 months. Families will also receive a $200 CAD discount on heating and electricity during the winter months. In addition, the government will make a permanent rebate program for natural gas. Income tax for 2022 will be indexed, and next spring Alberta residents will pay less than they should have.
Another initiative is reforming the healthcare system. They will help maximize the use of surgical departments, reduce ambulance arrival times, and the delivery of emergency patients to hospitals. Also, mental health support will be expanded.
Lately, Alberta seems increasingly attractive to Canadians and immigrants. During the second quarter of 2022, the province saw the largest influx of people from other regions.
