Canada cannot completely abandon quarantine restrictions
"Hybrid" restrictions – on some days only vaccinated people are allowed in, on some days all in a row.
As of March 1, 2022, no vaccination passport is required anywhere in the Canadian capital, although masks in Ontario Province will continue to be worn until at least the end of the month. Stores, cafes and other organizations are no longer required to require vaccination passports from visitors — but some business owners believe they must continue their policy of restrictions for the safety of their employees and customers. These are owners of pubs, movie theaters, and gyms. They claim that they will also choose cafes themselves, which still responsibly check vaccination passports.
Some of the owners of cafes and fitness centers think it makes the most sense to set aside certain days or hours for fully vaccinated customers. In their opinion, this would protect the elderly and people with chronic illnesses from the virus, but it would not discriminate against those who are against vaccination or are on medical leave, either.
Caring about accessibility for all, including the unvaccinated, is not just about direct loss of customers. Some organizations have complained that disgruntled visitors have left angry one-star reviews on Google maps after being denied service. After long protests in the streets people continue to fight for their freedom online.
There is no unanimity on the issue of restrictions among officials either — in the province of Alberta, for example, all municipalities decide for themselves when to abolish the mask regime. The Alberta government has already announced its intention to change local legislation in order to make such decisions at the provincial level.
