Canada is opening its borders to tourists
Certain categories of aliens will be able to enter Canada without a valid reason.
The news we've been waiting for! Canada opens its borders to foreign tourists tomorrow. The new rules will take effect on September 7 at 12:01 a.m. Ottawa time.
Entry conditions
Canada will only accept travelers who have been fully vaccinated against COVID-19, with one of Canada's approved products: Pfizer-BioNTech, Moderna, AstraZeneca/COVISHIELD, Janssen (Johnson & Johnson). At least 14 days must pass from the second vaccination.
At least 72 hours before departure, you must have a PCR test for COVID-19 and receive a negative result. Those who have had COVID-19 within six months prior to travel must have a positive test from 14-180 days before departure. In this case, a PCR is not required before the flight.
Before travelling, you also need to register in the government app ArriveCAN and upload your vaccination confirmation and quarantine plan there. Accept proof of vaccination in English and French or certified translation. Be sure to install the latest version of the application before registering.
Testing on arrival and quarantine
Vaccinated travellers are exempt from having to take a repeat PCR test on arrival, unless the traveller is randomly selected. If you are selected, you cannot refuse the test or you will have to pay a fine. Tourists are not quarantined, whether you are selected for testing or not.
Unvaccinated children
Children can travel to Canada without vaccination if their parents or caregivers are fully vaccinated. All children over the age of 5 will be required to have a PCR test when they arrive in Canada and on the 8th day after arrival.
Unvaccinated children from 12 to 17 years old will have to observe a 14-day self-exclusion in Canada, tourists under 12 years old are exempt from this. If you are flying with a child under the age of 12, you must indicate this on the ArriveCAN application.
You are allowed to enter Canada with an unvaccinated dependent child over the age of 18 and will be treated the same as a child aged 12-17. Dependents are defined as children who, for health reasons, require care.
