Accelerated vaccination for teens and young adults in Ontario

Young Canadians can now order a second dose of the antiviral vaccine ahead of schedule

All Ontario residents between the ages of 12 and 17 are eligible to receive a second dose of the COVID-19 virus vaccine at an accelerated rate. This rule has been in effect in the province since this morning.

Appointments for vaccinations can be made from 8am on the provincial portal, through health facilities that use their own booking systems, and through participating pharmacies.

Teenagers and young adults will receive the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine, the only COVID-19 vaccine approved for use among youth in Canada.

This decision was made as the province of Ontario continues to ramp up its antiviral campaign, although the originally allowed time between the first and second doses here was 4 months.

Statistics show that over 78% of Ontario adults already have at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine and approximately 44% of the population is fully vaccinated.
