Improving the quality of life in British Columbia

The province is actively accepting grant applications for new transportation infrastructure development in the west.

Over the next 3 years, the Canadian province of British Columbia intends to allocate $36 million CAD to create existing projects that will help fully develop its transportation infrastructure. The goal of this work is to help create the best living and development conditions for communities across British Columbia.

"Investing in vibrant transportation infrastructure is even more than just supporting safe cycling — it's also about connecting people from different communities. These grants will help create the most livable environment for even the smallest communities," said Bowinn Ma, Minister of State for Infrastructure.

Infrastructure projects in the province include active transportation plans such as: safe sidewalks, improved roadway lighting, and the creation of multi-use and protected lanes. In addition, it has been decided to make the roads as convenient as possible so that all residents have good access to the centres of their communities, to schools and jobs, to public transport and to transit stops.

It is planned that investments under the Active Transportation Infrastructure Grant Program will help meet the transportation needs of not only urban residents, but also those in indigenous and rural communities. The Government will develop the transport network infrastructure in partnership with Indigenous, local and regional authorities.

The B.C. government assures that this proactive strategy to develop the province's transportation arteries is part of planning for a more prosperous, balanced and sustainable future for all of Canada. It will help improve the environment and the economy as a whole.
