Abnormally hot weather expected in parts of Canada next weekend
The heat wave will sweep across vast swathes of North America.
Canada's weather service has predicted unprecedented temperatures over the coming weekend, warning of possible daytime highs above 40°C.
British Columbia will be hit the hardest, but meteorologists are advising residents across western Canada to prepare for the heat. High temperatures are likely to stretch from northeastern B.C. to the east coast of Vancouver Island, so most parts of the province will be affected.
According to the Weather Network, temperatures in Vancouver will reach 43 °C on Sunday and Monday due to humidity. Temperatures in Kamloops are expected to be around 44 °C on Sunday, while Abbotsford may see maximum temperatures around 48 °C on Monday.
Extreme weather warnings come amid worsening drought conditions across much of southern British Columbia that could lead to serious fire hazards.
