Canada updates air service arrangements with India and Pakistan

The ban on flights from one country no longer applies.

On 21 June, Canada delighted all residents with the first phase of the removal of border measures that are in place for passengers arriving from abroad. However, the epidemiological situation in some countries is still not favourable enough.

Transport Minister Omar Algabra announced that Canada is extending the ban on air links with India for another 30 days, until July 21. The ban applies only to direct flights. Passengers can still travel to Canada via a third country, in which case they will have to take a COVID-19 test in the country where they are connecting.

The ban on flights from Pakistan, which was imposed at the same time as the ban on flights from India, is ending. Passengers departing from that country are required to take a test before flying to Canada.

Restrictions on flights from India have been in place since 22 April 2021. They were introduced because of the spread in the country of the so-called Delta variant, which is considered more contagious and more dangerous than other strains of COVID.
