The Canadian delegation went to the quarantine hotel

Officials had to follow the rules they imposed because of the pandemic.

Last weekend, the G7 Summit was held in the United Kingdom, attended by Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and other members of the Canadian delegation. Upon their return to the country on June 15, the officials and accompanying journalists took a COVID-19 test and went to a quarantined hotel in Ottawa. The Trudeau administration said they were following the same rules that apply to other Canadians.

A mandatory hotel quarantine on arrival from abroad was introduced in February this year. Travellers must spend up to 3 days in one of the government-approved hotels, but can leave earlier if they get a negative test result for COVID-19. Then self-isolation at home follows. The total quarantine period is 14 days.

It is already known that Justin Trudeau received the test result the day after checking in, so he was allowed to leave the hotel.

The Conservative opposition was angered by the fact that government members were staying in Ottawa because there are no hotels in that city that are approved for quarantine. The fact is that regular travellers can only fly in from abroad to four cities: Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver and Calgary. All approved hotels are located there as well. But government planes are based at Ottawa airport.

In the coming weeks, the government plans to exempt Canadian residents who are fully vaccinated from hotel quarantine.
