One province has introduced vaccination confirmation cards

Canada may be getting closer to implementing vaccination passports.

Manitoba Premier Brian Pallister has announced the introduction of immunization cards, which will be issued to fully vaccinated residents of the province to confirm they have been vaccinated. Those who receive the card will be able to travel across Canada without restriction and will not have to comply with quarantine when they return to Manitoba.

You must have a Manitoba health card (health card) and apply 14 days after your second immunization to receive your immunization card.

The card will be available both digitally and physically. It will contain the person's first and last name and a QR code confirming vaccination status. No personal health information will be included. Once submitted, the digital card will be generated automatically and the physical card will be available by mail within two weeks.

Pallister also said he is discussing options with other provincial premiers to confirm vaccination, but talks are at an early stage.

Currently, about 69% of Manitoba adults have had at least one vaccination, but not everyone wants to be vaccinated. Pallister acknowledged that being able to travel without quarantine is one incentive for people to get vaccinated.
