Canada has extended the expiry date of vaccines

Thousands of doses across the country would be considered expired as early as tomorrow.

Health Canada has decided to extend the shelf life of AstraZeneca vaccines by 1 month. It will now expire on 1 July instead of 31 May. According to the Canadian government, the possibility of extending the shelf life has been confirmed by scientific evidence.

Thanks to the change, Canada's provinces and territories will be able to use AstraZeneca's vaccine stockpile. The country now has 49,000 doses that were due to expire on May 31.

According to the National Immunization Advisory Committee, AstraZeneca has demonstrated 62% efficacy for people aged 18 to 64, but some Canadian provinces decided not to use it as a first dose.
