British Columbia will ease restrictions

The number of COVID-19 infections has decreased significantly.

On May 24, some quarantine restrictions will expire in British Columbia. And thanks to the success of vaccination, the government is willing not to extend them.

Ian Tostenson, CEO of the B.C. Restaurant and Catering Association said the province's cafes and restaurants will be able to reopen on May 25. He encourages compliance with the requirements that were in place before the ban: no more than 6 people per table.

However, Tostenson notes that not all establishments are likely to be ready to open. The association has repeatedly urged the government to inform restaurant owners of its decisions in advance so businesses can prepare. But officials have been tight-lipped until recently.

Also on May 25, travel restrictions in B.C. will cease to apply.

The incidence of COVID-19 was at a record low in the province over the past week. On May 21, 420 cases of infection were detected. In comparison, on April 21, the number was 1,006.
