Alberta opens vaccinations to residents ages 12 and up

The province intends to vaccinate the entire adult population as early as summer.

After vaccinating populations at higher risk of infection and complications from COVID-19, the province of Alberta is ready to move to Phase 3 of immunization in the coming days when all people as young as 12 years old can get the shot. The government announced this shortly after Health Canada approved the first vaccine for 12— to 15-year-olds.

To avoid overloading the online portal, the vaccination appointment is divided into two stages:

  • From May 6, people 30 years and older (born before 1991) can sign up;
  • from May 10 — people aged 12-29 (born 1992-2009).

A total of 3.8 million Alberta residents will be able to make reservations. Immunization will continue to depend on vaccine supplies. Provincial authorities expect people will be able to start getting vaccinated in the coming weeks. Government plans call for all adult residents to receive at least one dose of the vaccine by June 30. More than 1.5m doses have now been administered.

To make an appointment, call 811 or go to one of the pharmacies on the list.

Earlier, the province imposed new restrictions due to a spike in COVID-19 diseases.
