WestJet resumes flights to Atlantic Canada and Quebec City

Key cities and capitals will again have permanent air service to all of Canada.

Calgary-based WestJet Airlines is set to resume flights to five airports this spring after suspending service due to last fall's pandemic.

Starting in late June, the airline will operate flights to Charlottetown, Fredericton, Moncton, Sydney and Quebec City.

"We have committed to returning to the communities we left in the wake of the pandemic, and we will be restoring flights to those regions of our own volition in the coming months," said Ed Sims, WestJet president and CEO, in a statement released Wednesday. — "These communities have been critical to our success for 25 years, and it is critical for us to ensure they have access to affordable air and domestic connections to drive their economic recovery.

Service to five airports was halted in November 2020 due to a drop in air travel demand as a result of the spread of COVID-19.

The airline also announced that its St. John's to Halifax route, which flies six times a week, had been upgraded to May 6 on June 24. The route was suspended in October 2020.
