Restaurants will reopen in Toronto

Mayor John Tory is confident it's a matter of weeks

On March 17, Toronto Mayor John Tory responded to questions from CP24 about the city's continued reopening.

Tory said the restaurants will be able to receive their first customers in the near future.

"It depends on four things — the opinion of health experts, the mood of the population, the situation in the region and the economic situation," he explained.

Experts believe Ontario is approaching the third wave of the pandemic. New variants of the coronavirus have emerged in the city. If they continue to spread, it could affect the final decision. But the mayor is confident restaurants will be allowed to open in the coming weeks.

Tory also announced the order of opening: outdoor establishments will start first, followed by those indoors.
