British Columbia introduces tax on sodas and vapes
These innovations will come into force on April 1.
These changes were supposed to take effect back in 2020, but the pandemic has made its adjustments here as well.
The provincial government says the innovations include removing the provincial sales tax exemption for carbonated drinks containing sugar, natural or artificial sweeteners.
The tax will be levied on all drinks that are sold through soda machines or similar equipment. It is also noted that the move has been supported by health professionals.
The change in taxation will also apply to those who sell digital software and telecommunications services if their income in the province exceeds $10,000 CAD.
In addition, as part of the new measure, all Canadian vape vendors will be required to charge a provincial tax on all online or mail-order sales.
