Manitoba issued 793 invitations under the MPNP
More than half of the spots went to graduates of provincial universities, and one in three invited candidates has an Express Entry profile.
On September 10, 2026, Manitoba held draw #279 under the provincial nominee program (MPNP). Invitations to apply were issued to 793 candidates. This is the largest draw in the province since July 16, 2026, and it once again combined four different pools within two program streams.
Graduates of Manitoba educational institutions: 508 invitations
The bulk of the invitations — 508 out of 793 — went to the highest-scoring candidates who indicated that either they or their spouse had completed a post-secondary or vocational education program in Manitoba. The minimum score for this pool was 825.
The province separately warns that those invited in this category will need to provide documentary proof of their studies, meaning a diploma and academic transcript. If neither you nor your spouse has completed a program in Manitoba, the invitation will be useless, and the application will be rejected during document review.
For those still planning their path, this is a clear signal: studying in the province remains the most reliable way to earn a high score in Manitoba's ranking system. If you're considering this option, it makes sense to choose a suitable program and institution in advance rather than at random. A consultation on studying in Canada can help with that.
Healthcare professions: 233 invitations
Another 233 invitations were issued under the Skilled Worker in Manitoba stream to candidates who reported currently working in Manitoba within the broad occupational category 3, that is, healthcare. The province did not publish a minimum score for this pool, since all eligible candidates were invited rather than just the top of the list.
Healthcare remains a persistent priority for Manitoba: this same category was selected in full during the April draw, and in August invitations went to general practitioners and family physicians. The province returns to healthcare more often than to any other occupational group.
Francophone pool
Separately, 11 invitations went to candidates who indicated French as their language of communication with the provincial program and provided a valid French-language test result. This pool is small but recurring: the province runs it in nearly every major draw, supporting francophone communities outside Quebec.
Strategic initiatives of the province
The remaining 41 candidates were invited under the Skilled Worker Stream. These are skilled workers in Manitoba and abroad whom the province had previously invited directly through its strategic initiatives. The breakdown was as follows:
- Employer Services, 17 invitations;
- Francophone Community, 12 invitations;
- Ethnocultural Communities, 7 invitations;
- Regional Communities, 3 invitations;
- Temporary Public Policy on issuing work permits to future provincial nominee program candidates (TPP), 2 invitations.

Of the 793 people invited, 272 indicated a valid profile number in the federal Express Entry system along with a job seeker validation code. That's about 34%, meaning roughly one in three invitees — the highest share among Manitoba draws since July 2026.
For these candidates, the provincial nomination is especially valuable. It adds 600 points to their federal ranking score, which practically guarantees an invitation for permanent residence in the next federal draw. In effect, such a candidate stops competing with the rest of the pool.
Comparison with previous draws
The previous draw took place on August 27, 2026, when the province issued 741 invitations. Before that, on August 13, a much smaller draw of just 53 invitations was held, and on July 30 Manitoba invited 766 candidates. The largest draw of 2026 so far remains the one from July 16, with 1,976 invitations.
The most curious detail is what happened with the cutoff score. The pool for graduates of Manitoba educational institutions was already used on July 16, and the minimum score back then was also 825. In other words, over two months the threshold hasn't moved by a single point, even though the number of invitations in this pool dropped from 1,874 to 508. This suggests that the province is deliberately keeping the bar at the same level rather than adjusting it to match the size of the draw.
That said, directly comparing scores across different pools isn't appropriate. The figure of 825 applies only to graduates of Manitoba educational institutions and says nothing about requirements for other categories. For example, in the August draw, workers in technical and transportation occupations were selected with a score of 731, while in the July draw, workers in manufacturing and utilities were selected with a score of 632. Each time, the province ranks its own separate pool.
Overall, Manitoba continues to alternate between narrow draws targeting strategic initiatives, where a few dozen pre-selected candidates receive invitations, and large-scale draws that open up an entire occupational group or the top of the ranking. A modest-sized draw on its own doesn't mean the program is winding down — the next one could turn out to be dozens of times larger.
Why an invitation may not have arrived
The province reminds applicants that applications under strategic initiatives are only considered for candidates whom the MPNP invited directly as part of the relevant initiative or through the temporary public policy (TPP).
If your profile formally met the draw criteria but you didn't receive an invitation, the reason is most often technical. The candidate may have indicated that they took a language test but failed to enter a valid result number, or the test's validity period may have already expired. Another common situation: a person indicated that they received an invitation from the province under a strategic initiative but failed to provide the correct invitation number. In both cases, it's worth updating your profile to be included in the next pool.
Each question in the profile form comes with a hint detailing exactly what information needs to be entered. Many errors arise from careless field entry rather than from insufficient points.
What to do next
An invitation from the province is only the first step. After receiving it, you need to gather and submit a complete package of documents for the provincial nomination, and only then apply for permanent residence. The deadlines here are strict, and mistakes in documentation are costly, so it makes sense to figure out in advance which category suits you and what your profile might be missing.
