First autumn Express Entry draw

First autumn Express Entry draw

Twice as many invitations, the score barely changed.

On September 1, 2026, Canada kicked off the fall draw season in Express Entry. A total of 2,000 candidates were invited to apply for permanent residence through the Canadian Experience Class, a program designed for skilled workers who already have work experience in Canada.

The cut-off score was 521. In the previous draw on August 18, which set this year's high of 523 points, only half as many invitations were issued. This time, the invite quota returned to the usual 2,000, and the cut-off dropped by just 2 points.

Despite the slight dip, the score remains noticeably higher than what's typically seen in this category. For most of 2026, the threshold held steady between 514 and 518, but the last two draws have come in at 521–523. This suggests that competition among candidates with Canadian work experience is on the rise.

When multiple candidates have the same score, invitations go to those who submitted their profile earlier. In this draw, the tie-breaking date was August 18, 2026 — just over two weeks before the draw. The queue at 521 points turned out to be short, meaning even recently created profiles had a real shot.

This draw took place the day after the Provincial Nominee draw on August 31, which wrapped up the summer season with the year's lowest cut-off score.

Candidates who received an invitation have 60 days to submit a complete application. You'll need language test results, proof of education, and documentation confirming your Canadian work experience.

How to improve your chances in Express Entry

The Canadian Experience Class is open to those who have already gained skilled work experience in Canada. Alongside it, the Express Entry system also includes the Federal Skilled Worker Program and the Federal Skilled Trades Program.

If your current score isn't quite there yet, there are several ways to boost it: improve your language test scores, get additional education and have it assessed, build up more work experience, or secure a provincial nomination, which instantly adds 600 points to your score. French is also worth considering — draws targeting French-speaking candidates tend to have significantly lower cut-offs, and you can start learning the language through online courses.

To figure out which strategy makes the most sense for your situation, book a consultation with a licensed immigration consultant.
