Canada has lowered the passing score for French-speaking candidates in Express Entry

In the new selection round, 5,000 invitations were issued to candidates with French language skills.

On August 6, 2026, Canada held a new category-based draw in Express Entry for candidates with French language proficiency. Invitations to apply for permanent residence were sent to 5,000 candidates.

The cut-off score was 391. In the previous draw on July 22, 2026, the threshold was 399, and 5,000 people also received invitations. The minimum score dropped by 8 points, while the number of invitations remained unchanged.

The new cut-off became the lowest for French-speaking candidates since March 2026. With the high quota of 5,000 invitations maintained, this round became even more accessible for participants with strong French language skills.

Over the last three French-language draws, the cut-off score has steadily decreased: from 420 in early July to 399, and now to 391. This may indicate Canada's continued strong demand for professionals with French language skills.

Invited candidates must submit a complete application for permanent residence within 60 days. The package must include language test results, proof of education, work experience documents, and other required materials.
