Who received invitations and what requirements are expected of candidates.

On March 5, 2026, the first category-based selection under the new Senior Managers with Canadian Work Experience category took place in the Express Entry system. This category was announced by the government as part of the updated immigration priorities for 2026.

In this round, 250 candidates received invitations to apply for permanent residence. The minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score was 429.

The launch of this new category confirms that Canada is focused on attracting senior-level executives who already have work experience in the country and can contribute to business and economic development.

Who Received Invitations

The selection targeted senior managers with Canadian work experience in the following sectors:

  • finance, communications, and other business services;
  • health, education, social and community services, and membership organizations;
  • trade, broadcasting, and other services;
  • construction, transportation, manufacturing, and utilities.

This means invitations went to candidates holding senior management positions across various economic sectors with verified work experience in Canada.

What the New Selection Format Means

The Senior Managers with Canadian Work Experience category was introduced by the government as part of the expansion of Express Entry category-based selections for 2026. It targets professionals who have already worked in Canada and possess management experience at the senior executive level.

The new format allows the Express Entry system to more precisely invite candidates with experience that is particularly in demand in the Canadian labor market. Previously, the first selection among the new categories was a round for physicians with Canadian work experience, reflecting the government's commitment to addressing staffing needs in key economic sectors.

Who Can Participate in the Selection

To qualify for the Senior Managers with Canadian Work Experience category, a candidate must:

  • have verified work experience in Canada in a senior management position in one of the occupations specified for this category;
  • have performed the actions described in the lead statement for the occupation according to the National Occupational Classification (NOC) descriptions during the specified work experience;
  • have performed a substantial portion of the main duties for the occupation, including all essential duties, according to the National Occupational Classification descriptions during the specified work experience.

Correctly indicating your NOC occupation code and management work experience helps the system include your profile in the right category for targeted selection.

It's expected that throughout 2026, the government will continue conducting specialized rounds for senior managers with Canadian experience, as well as for other previously announced categories, including research scientists, transportation professionals, and select military occupations.

Keep track of new Express Entry rounds to stay updated on cut-off scores and current immigration opportunities.
