The Government's Ambitious Goals

Canada is maintaining high immigration levels: according to the new 2026-2028 plan, the country will welcome 380,000 permanent residents annually. The focus is shifting toward economic immigrants — their share will grow to 245,000 spots by 2027-2028.

Special attention goes to French-speaking candidates. By 2028, the share of Francophone immigrants outside Quebec should reach 10.5%, and 12% by 2029. This isn't just statistics — it's real demand for people who speak French.

What Does This Mean for You?

French opens doors:

  • More points in Express Entry. Even basic proficiency adds points, while advanced levels can be a deciding factor.
  • Access to special programs. Provincial streams for Francophones are often less competitive.
  • Support with settlement. IRCC is investing in programs to help French-speaking immigrants — from employment to integration into local communities.
How Does the Express Entry System Work?

Express Entry is an online platform through which Canada selects candidates for permanent residence under three federal programs:

CRS points are awarded for several factors: age, education, English or French language skills, work experience and Canadian experience, marital status, and adaptability.

When Should You Start?

Right now. Learning a language takes time, and competition for spots will only increase. The sooner you start, the more confident you'll feel when submitting your application.
